In preparation for the demolition of the U-Boat pens at Hamburg, Sergeant R Wardell from Hull and Corporal R Rigg from Littleborough in Lancashire, both of 244 Field Company, Royal Engineers, wire up the exploder that will detonate the charges inside the pens. To complete the destruction of the massive structures on 21 October 1945, over 82,000 lbs of explosives was used. This picture was taken on 16 October 1945. [IWM]
