53rd Welsh

A World War II Living History Group

53rd Welsh Re-enactment

The Group

The 53rd Welsh began life as the Royal Welch Fusiliers, and was founded in 2008 by "Swiper" (a.k.a. L/Cpl Ware) and JJ (a.k.a. Fus. Evans 4586). The group's initial impression was of 4th Battalion, Royal Welch Fusiliers, when part of 158th (Royal Welch) Brigade in Normandy. In 2009 the RWF gained two new members and attended several events in the UK and the D-Day celebrations in Normandy. At the end of that year the RWF converted its impression to cover the whole of the 53rd Division, and the 53rd Welsh was formed.

In early 2010 the 53rd Welsh had a large influx of new members and now has 14 members overall. Most of the group's members are based in Wales, and we hold training days at 1940's Swansea Bay.

We can portray the division in a variety of operational situations, including the Normandy campaign, the autumn fighting in Holland, the winter fighting during the "Battle of the Bulge" and the final advance into Germany.

The group strives for authenticity and uses either original or high-quality reproduction clothing and equipment to make sure its impression is of the highest possible standard.
